Eliminate Blog Spam
It was inevitable… the spammers are overwhelming many blog owners with comment and trackback spam. Some dread opening their blogs because they’re finding hundreds of spam entries, many of them quite distasteful.
Fear not! There is help… very effective help.
The three tools that seem to be most recommended are Akismet, Bad Behavior, and Spam Karma. If you use Wordpress the Akismet Plugin was automatically installed and can be activated through your dashboard. Bad Behavior and Spam Karma are available from the Plugins Directory.
Check the developers’ websites for each script to see if they work with other blog applications.
If all else fails, Cryptograph adds a captcha to your comment form to assure that spambots can’t post and entry. Why do I say, “if all else fails” rather than recommend using this tool first? Because using a captcha can be enough of an obstacle to legitimate commenters, and without a sound option, it completely blocks the visually impaired. I don’t like to put up any obstacles to visitor participation so I recommend it only as a last resort.
Try the tools one at a time until you find yourself blissfully blog spam free!

Hi. Thanks for stopping by. It looks like you have a good start for your site. I’ll check back later to see what else you’ve added.
I haven’t tried SpamAssassin, the email spam filter you recommend. Since I do a lot of business online, I don’t use anything that automatically deletes any email. Does SpamAssassin delete messages?
I use and recommend MailWasherPro.
I wish you success with your site!
